There are so many wonderful things to do in and around Bucks County! We have tried to keep the ideas listed here as inexpensive (or FREE!) as possible, and have included some links to sites that offer even more.
You'll wish you had even more days to fill this summer! :)
Bucks County Libraries Events and Story times:
http://calendar.buckslib.org/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp
From science programs to story times, for 2 year olds to teens –
there are amazing programs at all of our local libraries- and their calendar site makes it easy to find out what's when & where!
Busy Bee Toy Store
http://www.busybeetoys.net/events-activities.html
Nerice is the most wonderful toy shop owner ever! The toys are always out for kids to try before you buy, and Wednesdays she has a special play time from 10:30 -12:30 for the kids to mingle and play. And there's ALWAYS a fun First Friday event happening there too!
Brown Bag it with the Arts
http://www.centralbuckschamber.org/brownbagit/index.htm
We go to as many of these with our kids as we can in the summer! Pack a picnic and relax in town while enjoying fantastic local music and shows.
Free Family Fun Film Fesitval
http://www.regmovies.com/nowshowing/familyfilmfestivalschedule.aspx?state=PA
This is SO COOL! Every Tues and Weds in the summer, the Regal Theaters show FREE kids movies at 10am! Perfect for super hot or rainy summer days. Get there early- it gets crowded!
Peace Valley Nature Center
http://www.peacevalleynaturecenter.org/index.html
More great things to do for all ages! Their website is not yet updated, but you can go on and call for dates and times of free events- here are some:
Weds June 9 @ 7pm- Critter Prowl
Fri June 15 @ 8:30 pm Firefly Frolic
Weds July 7 @ 7pm Stream Search
Fri July 9 @ 9:30 pm Star Search
Churchville Nature Center
http://www.churchvillenaturecenter.org/
A little farther away for my family to go , but so many wonderful (and usually FREE!) programs that we make the drive anyway!! Their website has all the events listed.
Bucks County ALIVE!
http://buckscountyalive.com/events/index.cfm?webname=bcalive
Awesome site where you can type in the exact date, type of event and even age range! Lists tons of local events for this summer.
FARMER'S MARKETS and CSA's
There are so many in our area, and it is a great way to both shop for local produce, and show kids that food doesn't really grow on supermarket shelves!
Here are two of our personal faves, but check out Bucks County ALIVE site above for even more:
Doylestown Farmer's Market
Saturdays from 7am till noon
http://www.buckinghampacivic.org/FarmersMkt.htm
Blooming Glen Farm CSA
http://www.bloomingglenfarm.com/farmersmarket.html
Shares are sold out for 2010, but the farm provides produce at the farm markets listed at the above link. And if you can get a share for 2011, their farm is wonderful and even has a children's garden
MUSEUMS
Again, almost too many just locally to list, not even including all the Philly & NJ ones! Most are not free –-except on First Fridays!!-- but many offer special tours geared just towards children, you just have to ask.
Mercer Museum and Fonthill Summer Events
http://www.mercermuseum.org/events_calendar.htm?month=June&year=2010
James A Michener Museum
http://www.michenermuseum.org/events/
